All students K-5th grades enjoy music classes every week, while Junior High students have the option of several exciting music electives.
Each class uses a variety of creative ways to learn music by singing, reading, listening, composing, evaluating, and playing music for
their appropriate age. Through our fun and energetic classroom environment, our goal is that your child’s interest will blossom into a lifelong appreciation of music.
Our computer lab allows classes to integrate technology and curriculum content. Teachers can take their class to the lab to
research information and create documents in Word, Publisher, and PowerPoint. In Junior High each student takes one trimester
per year of computer class to improve keyboarding skills and develop familiarity with the programs. Older students can volunteer
to work on the technology crew or learn web design.
Monroe Christian School offers many opportunities for students’ spiritual growth. One of those areas is classroom service projects.
Each class has their own service project for the year that extends learning beyond the classroom. Some examples of classroom service
projects are Operation Christmas Child, Food Bank, Senior Center, toys for the Food Bank, Missionary support – Quarters for Calcutta,
Pennies for Precious Treasures, etc. Through these ministries, children learn to give, connect with community members, reach out to
those less fortunate, and look beyond themselves to the needs of others.
Each year Monroe Christian School offers a wide variety of activities that reflect our core values. These activities encourage our students to
grow in all areas of their lives: spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically. These activities are sometimes volunteer
driven, so they can vary from year to year. Currently, extracurricular activities include: Co-ed Soccer, Basketball for boys and girls, Chess Club,
Book Club, Track and Field, Volleyball, Panoramic Perspectives (Jr. High) Magazine.
We offer special events throughout the year such as: Knight of the Arts, Lincoln’s 200th Birthday, visits from authors, Spirit Week,
Thanksgiving Feast, Good Friday activities, Field Day on the last day of school, Junior High bridge building contest, Jr. High Washington,
DC, trip every 2 years, Community parade in August, Annual auction, Walk-a-Thon, annual Christmas program.
All students attend Chapel every Friday morning at New Hope Fellowship (directly across the street from the school). Students enjoy exuberant worship,
practical messages based on the year’s theme, and prayer. Chapels are interactive and fun! Parents are always welcome to join students for Chapel.
Our school’s theme this year is “This Is My Father’s World!” At our Friday chapel, after our students recite Psalm 19:1-4, you will hear them proclaim:
“Every square inch!” This year’s motto focuses on the truth that God created the whole world and everything in it. We believe that Jesus Christ, through
His life, death, and resurrection, conquered and reclaimed what was lost in this fallen world. His sacrifice was more than sufficient to pay the price in
full. With this in mind, our motto comes from the following quote: “There is not a square inch in the whole domain of human existence over which Christ,
who is sovereign over all, does not cry, ‘Mine!’” (A. Kuiper)
During our first chapel this year, we spent a few minutes talking about what a square inch is and how many square inches it takes to cover a human heart.
We talked about how many square inches it must take to cover just one of the students or just one of the tiles in the hallway. It begins to add up quickly
what every square inch means. It means every square inch of each human heart, of each person, of every part in our school, our neighborhood, our town, our
world – it ALL belongs to our Creator!
It is comforting and profound that God the Creator, through the redemptive work of His Son, continues to be actively involved with His creation.
Our focus this year is to begin to learn and understand just a little bit more about our Creator and our Father whose fingerprints are all over His creation,
“Every square inch!”
We are blessed to have a covered sport court and play area for our students, enabling them to have PE and/or recess regardless of the weather.
P.E. Philosophy - We acknowledge that we are God’s image bearers and that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. We, as Christians,
are called to develop and maintain these temples as living sacrifices to the Lord. Our Physical Education program emphasizes the need to
show respect for the body that Christ gave us.
Our 5th through 8th grade physical education program at Monroe Christian School meets the essential learning requirements for the State of
Washington. P.E. classes are held for 45 minutes, three times a week. The school year is divided into three trimesters. In the first
trimester, our program focuses on learning the rules and the skills needed for soccer and basketball. During the second trimester, our focus
turns to flag football and field hockey. Our school year ends with softball and volleyball. To encourage individual physical fitness, we
offer our students the opportunity to participate in the President’s Challenge. Through the events of the President’s Challenge, our students
are able to obtain a clear understanding of their personal fitness level.
Monroe Christian School offers Extended Care (E-Care) after school between 3:15 and 6:00 P.M. for parents who cannot pick up their children at regular dismissal time.
We provide:
• Nutritional snacks such as string cheese, granola bars, fruit and veggies.
• Play time in the fenced in play area and in the classroom,
• Arts and crafts
• Quiet homework time
To insure safety and comfort for each student, we follow the same rules at E-care that we do during school.
Monroe Christian currently offers two sports for 5th through 8th graders: Co-ed soccer in the fall and boys’ and girls’ basketball in the winter.
We play in the Tri-County League, where students get a chance to show their sportsmanship, as well as learn the skills to play each sport. In the spring,
the Junior High is involved in a one-day softball tournament against other teams in the Tri-County League. We are also looking into the possibility of
having a track team next year in the spring.
