Our History:
A Foundation of Faith

Monroe Christian School was founded in 1956 by a group

of hard-working Christian farmers with a desire for their children to be rooted firmly in their faith. They wanted a school that would teach the same values and way of life they worked to instill in them at home.

So in 1956, in a back room of New Hope Fellowship Church,

a Christian school was born.

This new school was designed to reject the secular philosophy that man is the center of the universe. Instead, it acknowledges God as the Creator of all things, and establishes the Word of God as the plumb-line for learning.

MCS is dedicated to the Biblical understanding that our lives as Christians are lived within the Kingdom of Jesus Christ here on earth. This “world and life view” does not separate us from the present world, but instead helps us to see it in the light of God’s Word as revealed to us by His Holy Spirit.

Classes were taught in the back room of New Hope for the first few years, made up of mostly local farming families and their children. There was only one teacher to lead the small group of students, from every grade level. They were taught together, side by side, with unified lessons and values.

Over time, more students were added as the town and church grew quickly.  More teachers were found and that space was quickly outgrown.

Steady Growth â€‹ & Building Projects

After continued growth and years of prayerful consideration, the decision was made to buy four acres of available land across the street. The location was ideal, and thanks to some providential circumstances, it became available at just the right time. Building plans were drawn up, and soon there stood a four-classroom school that would be the foundation of where we are today.

As word of MCS's reputation spread, enrollment continued to grow as well. Student enrollment grew exponentially throughout the 1960’s and 70’s, meaning our once-spacious building was headed for a major expansion in order to meet the growing demand.

The next expansion allowed the building to double in size, providing a total of eight classrooms. Soon, the 1st-8th grade program was flourishing, which prompted the addition of Kindergarten in the 1980’s and Preschool a decade later.

In 2000, the school was again bursting at the seams. Another big decision was made to purchase an available piece of property next to the current field. Construction soon began on five more classrooms, as well as a much-needed teacher workroom.

2010 brought the welcome addition of a covered sports court, protecting P.E. and recess from the elements. This continues to keep students dry and busy with basketball, volleyball, hockey, and more all year long.

Reflection on the Journey

As we look around our classrooms today, grandchildren and great-grandchildren from those founding families can still be found at MCS. Many others are second generation students, whose parents attended before them.

Our student body continues to grow and we are once again bursting at the seams, which is evidence of God's great plan for both our school and our community. With another major expansion on the horizon, we continue to pray for clarity and guidance like those who began

MCS all those years ago. â€‹Those praying parents could have never predicted how that leap of faith would impact so many. Their legacy of obedience lives on, nurturing and empowering generations of His children nearly 70 years later.
